This Privacy Policy describes how FAST Dictionary & Translator ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. The App is developed by br8studio.
- The App does not require an account and does not collect your name, email address, or any other identity information.
- Word and phrase lookups are sent to Google's Gemini AI service to generate definitions, translations, and explanations.
- Search terms are sent to Unsplash to find matching illustration images.
- Photos you capture or select for text scanning (OCR) are processed entirely on your device and are never uploaded anywhere.
- Your search history, favorites, and app settings are stored only on your device.
- Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play — we never see or store your payment card details.
- We use Sentry for crash and performance reporting to help us fix bugs. This does not include your name or email.
- We do not use advertising or analytics/tracking SDKs, and we do not sell your data.
Information We Process
1. Dictionary lookups, translations, and explanations
When you look up a word or phrase, the App sends that text — along with your selected source/target language and dictionary level settings — to Google's Gemini AI service to generate a definition, translation, or explanation. This text may include words or phrases you type, select, or extract via on-device text scanning.
2. Image search
When the App shows an illustrative photo for a word, it sends the search term (the word itself) to Unsplash's API to retrieve a matching image. No personal data or images of yours are sent to Unsplash.
3. Camera and photo library access
If you use the App's "scan text" feature, any photo you capture or choose from your gallery is processed entirely on your device using on-device text recognition (OCR). The photo itself is never uploaded to us or to any third party — only the text you choose to look up afterward is sent to Gemini AI as described above.
4. Locally stored data
The App stores the following only on your device, never on our servers:
- Your search/lookup history and favorited words
- App settings and preferences (language, theme, dictionary level, etc.)
- Basic usage counters (e.g., number of AI requests made) used to enforce free-tier limits
This data is not synced to any cloud service and is deleted if you uninstall the App.
5. Subscriptions and payments
Auto-renewing subscriptions are sold and processed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play billing systems. We never receive or store your credit card, billing address, or other payment details — this is handled exclusively by Apple/Google under their own privacy policies:
Subscription price, length, and renewal terms are shown in the App before purchase and in your App Store/Play Store account settings.
6. Crash and performance reporting
We use Sentry to automatically collect crash reports and performance diagnostics (e.g., stack traces, device model, OS version, app version) so we can identify and fix bugs. We do not attach your name, email, or other identifying information to these reports.
7. What we do NOT do
- We do not require account creation or login.
- We do not use advertising networks.
- We do not use behavioral analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data Retention
Locally stored data (history, settings) remains on your device until you clear it or uninstall the App. We do not retain copies of your lookups on our servers, since lookups are processed by Gemini AI in real time and not stored by us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
